#BlackLivesMatter
Boomers responded with outrage to the deadly use of force on George Floyd by law enforcement officers in Minneapolis, MN on May 25, 2020. This and other similar incidents have galvanized thousands in protests across the country (and indeed in countries all over the world) that call for institutionally sanctioned violence and systemic racism to stop. This watershed moment has also sparked long needed conversations about identifying persistent racial bias in our daily lives and what we each can do to foster real change.
In our initial coordinated effort, we created a collective response resource guide called Ideas Toward a Better Future. It is a company wide shared document where all employees can list suggested literature / education / media and other informational resources on the history of racial inequity and injustice as well as local efforts & black owned businesses we may not have been aware of that we can support if we choose. BoomTown will also hold company wide informational listening sessions and workshops lead by our Talent team where we can learn and share thoughts on how WE as BoomTown can collectively make a difference, in a series called WE.ARE
As our founder and CEO Grier Allen stated in his address to the BoomTown family:
BoomTown has been and will continue to be a partner in our community through individual and our collective outreach efforts through BoomTownLOVE. We have partnered with and invested in many organizations through the years that foster equity for everyone in our community. Some of the initiatives we have and are supporting include: African American historic preservation with The Gullah Society, food justice at Fresh Future Farm, and affordable housing & home ownership with Metanoia. Additionally, through organizations such as Be A Mentor, Reading Partners, CodeON, and through events hosted at BoomTown like STEMapalooza we are helping young people in our area attain improved chances for educational, economic & personal success. And we are only just beginning. We are committed to listening, educating, and supporting as we move forward because we stand in solidarity in the fight against violence and inequality. We cannot solve it all but we can, and will, do our part together. Thank you for doing your part in helping build a better future for all. #ThisIsBoomTown
