Lillian Boatwright Receives 2022 SC Women in Business Award
Sales Operations Manager Lillian Boatwright has been named a recipient of the 2022 SC Women in Business Award! We are excited to celebrate our fellow Boomer for this career achievement and learn more about the civic and community leadership roles she holds in her hometown - Greenville, SC!
Just last year Lillian was also named to the 2021 Class of Changemakers by the Multiplying Good organization where she now serves on their board, on the Board and as a Executive Committee Member with the Upstate Preservation Trust, and the City of Clemson Board of Zoning Appeals and the Pickens County Board of Voter Registration and Elections. We asked Lillian to tell us a little more about all of her civic and community leadership service:
BTL: You have accomplished so much public service for someone so early in their career, how did you first realize that there were government & civic boards to which you could belong?
Lillian: I had been volunteering with a group focused on the overwhelming development of our area and how to ensure we maintained the charm of Clemson while also preparing for responsible growth. Speaking out at council meetings and lending my voice to PR materials for that cause introduced me to many folks who were active in other areas of the community. Prior to that, I helped with political campaigns in college and advocated for things I felt were important in daily life to the world I live in. Through all this, I met many other people who were on the same path of service, and was asked to apply for the Board of Elections role. That was the first appointed board I had served on, and I was flattered to be chosen by the Governor.
BTL: What have you learned that you didn't already know 4 months ago since you started your role with BoomTown?
Lillian: Boomtown has welcomed me with open arms. From the first day, I knew I would have a place to make friendships as well as a career. The biggest thing I have learned, especially as a remote worker, is there is no such thing as over-communication!
BTL: What is included in your career goals’ vision as a woman in business short & long term?
Lillian: As a woman in business, I would like to use the attention I get to direct anybody who is listening to learn about causes I think are important and offer up resources to assist in their own communities. I really think the biggest differences are made locally, and we feel the impacts of time and energy put into our communities far more than we ever would sending money to a national cause. While the latter is important, of course, the former returns an immediate impact to day-to-day life. I'm a huge advocate for engaging elected leaders such as City Councils and County Councils, and local groups like Rotary and locally-founded not-for-profits - they care more about the issues others would deem as small, but we know are so much bigger.
